Description

This Ultimate Chocolate Cake is fudgy, moist, and intensely chocolatey, layered and topped with a rich, silky chocolate ganache. Perfect for any celebration or indulgent treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (65 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 8 oz (225 g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (optional, for shine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin).
  5. Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  8. To make ganache: heat cream until just boiling, pour over chopped chocolate, let sit 5 minutes, then stir until smooth. Stir in butter if using.
  9. Once cakes are cooled, spread ganache over the first layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.

Notes

  • For extra moistness, brush cake layers with simple syrup before frosting.
  • Chill ganache slightly to thicken before spreading.
  • Decorate with chocolate curls, fresh berries, or edible gold flakes for a wow factor.
