Description

This classic apple crisp features tender cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery oat crumble. It’s an easy and comforting dessert that’s delicious served warm or cold.

Ingredients

  • 3 large apples, sliced or chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sweetener of choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup flour, such as white, spelt, or oat
  • 1 1/4 cups rolled or quick oats
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons butter or oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the apples with the sweetener and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Spread evenly into an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  4. Cut the butter into the dry mixture with a fork or pastry cutter until small crumbles form. If using oil, stir it in until evenly combined.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or cold.

Notes

  • Use tart apples such as Granny Smith for a more balanced flavor.
  • Spelt or oat flour can be substituted for all-purpose flour.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze baked apple crisp in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
