This classic apple crisp features tender cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery oat crumble. It’s an easy and comforting dessert that’s delicious served warm or cold.
Ingredients
- 3 large apples, sliced or chopped (about 6 cups)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sweetener of choice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/3 cup flour, such as white, spelt, or oat
- 1 1/4 cups rolled or quick oats
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 8 tablespoons butter or oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, toss the apples with the sweetener and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Spread evenly into an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon.
- Cut the butter into the dry mixture with a fork or pastry cutter until small crumbles form. If using oil, stir it in until evenly combined.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or cold.
Notes
- Use tart apples such as Granny Smith for a more balanced flavor.
- Spelt or oat flour can be substituted for all-purpose flour.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
