Description

These juicy buffalo burgers are packed with savory flavor and topped with a creamy homemade burger sauce. Quick and easy to make, they are perfect for a hearty weeknight meal or casual cookout.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground bison
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for cooking
  • Toppings of choice
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons pickle relish
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or sugar substitute (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground bison, kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly and form into 4 equal burger patties.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, pickle relish, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, sugar if using, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix until smooth and set aside.
  3. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. When the butter is melted and hot, add the burger patties to the skillet. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Cook the burgers for about 4 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook another 4 minutes or until the desired doneness is reached.
  6. Serve the burgers hot with the burger sauce and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Bison is leaner than beef, so avoid overcooking to keep the burgers juicy.
  • Swap butter for oil if preferred for cooking.
  • Serve on buns, lettuce wraps, or over salad for different serving options.
  • The burger sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
