Description

These rich chocolate mousse cups are silky, creamy, and deeply chocolatey with a hint of espresso. Finished with whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate shavings, they make an elegant make-ahead dessert.

Ingredients

  • 200 g dark or semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 400 g whipping cream, divided into 200 g + 200 g
  • 100 g whipping cream, cold
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 fresh strawberries, halved
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the chopped chocolate, espresso powder, and vanilla extract.
  2. Heat 200 g of whipping cream in a saucepan over medium heat or in the microwave until just simmering. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate mixture and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth and fully melted. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the remaining 200 g whipping cream until soft peaks form.
  4. Fold the melted chocolate mixture into the whipped cream using a spatula until fully combined and no streaks remain.
  5. Divide the mousse mixture evenly among serving glasses or dessert cups. Smooth the tops if desired.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until fully set.
  7. For the topping, whisk the cold 100 g whipping cream with powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until firm peaks form.
  8. Top each mousse cup with whipped cream, half a strawberry, and chocolate shavings.
  9. Serve chilled for a fudgy texture or let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes for a creamier consistency.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • The mousse can be made a day in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • For a sweeter mousse, use semi-sweet chocolate instead of dark chocolate.
  • Serve in small glasses, ramekins, or coupe glasses for an elegant presentation.
