Description

These crispy cream cheese wontons are golden brown on the outside with a rich, creamy filling inside. Serve them with sweet and sour sauce for a classic takeout-style appetizer at home.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 package wonton wrappers
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 egg white, whipped
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup homemade sweet and sour sauce
  • 1 cup fresh crabmeat (optional)
  • Green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place about 1 heaping teaspoon of cream cheese in the center of each wonton wrapper. If using crabmeat, mix it with the cream cheese before filling the wrappers.
  2. Brush the edges of each wrapper with whipped egg white or water. Fold and pinch the edges tightly to seal.
  3. Heat oil to 350℉ in a deep pan or fryer. Fry the wontons in batches until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain on paper towels and serve warm with sweet and sour sauce. Add chili paste to the sauce if desired for extra spice. Garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the fryer to keep the wontons crispy.
  • Crabmeat adds extra flavor but can be omitted for a classic cream cheese version.
  • Wontons are best served immediately after frying.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer.
