Description
A crispy, cheesy Detroit-style pizza topped with savory pepperoni, fresh herbs, and a rich tomato sauce, finished with a touch of honey for balance.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
- 4 cloves garlic, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seed
- Chili flakes
- Kosher salt and black pepper
- 2 tablespoons pepperoncini, chopped
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- 1 1/2 cups cubed brick cheese or whole milk mozzarella
- 1/2 cup cubed provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup cubed cheddar cheese
- 8 ounces pepperoni, sliced
- Honey, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 500°F and position a rack in the bottom half.
- Drizzle olive oil into a 9×13-inch metal pan. Place the dough in the pan and gently stretch it toward the edges. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix garlic, basil, oregano, fennel seed, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Press the dough to fully cover the pan. Layer half of the pepperoni, then add pepperoncini.
- Spoon the marinara sauce over the dough and sprinkle with half of the herb mixture.
- Add the cheeses evenly, then scatter cherry tomatoes on top. Finish with remaining herbs and pepperoni.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes until bubbly with a crispy cheese crust.
- Loosen edges with a spatula, transfer to a board, slice into squares, and serve with honey.
Notes
- Use brick cheese for authentic Detroit-style flavor, but mozzarella works well.
- Letting the dough rest helps it stretch easily without tearing.
- Add extra chili flakes for more heat if desired.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
- Drizzle honey just before serving for a sweet contrast.
