Description

A crispy, cheesy Detroit-style pizza topped with savory pepperoni, fresh herbs, and a rich tomato sauce, finished with a touch of honey for balance.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seed
  • Chili flakes
  • Kosher salt and black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons pepperoncini, chopped
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed brick cheese or whole milk mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup cubed provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup cubed cheddar cheese
  • 8 ounces pepperoni, sliced
  • Honey, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 500°F and position a rack in the bottom half.
  2. Drizzle olive oil into a 9×13-inch metal pan. Place the dough in the pan and gently stretch it toward the edges. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix garlic, basil, oregano, fennel seed, chili flakes, salt, and pepper.
  4. Press the dough to fully cover the pan. Layer half of the pepperoni, then add pepperoncini.
  5. Spoon the marinara sauce over the dough and sprinkle with half of the herb mixture.
  6. Add the cheeses evenly, then scatter cherry tomatoes on top. Finish with remaining herbs and pepperoni.
  7. Bake for 10–15 minutes until bubbly with a crispy cheese crust.
  8. Loosen edges with a spatula, transfer to a board, slice into squares, and serve with honey.

Notes

  • Use brick cheese for authentic Detroit-style flavor, but mozzarella works well.
  • Letting the dough rest helps it stretch easily without tearing.
  • Add extra chili flakes for more heat if desired.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • Drizzle honey just before serving for a sweet contrast.
