Description

A comforting gluten free shepherd’s pie made with savory ground beef, vegetables, and a rich gravy, all topped with fluffy mashed potatoes and baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons gluten free all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup low sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 cup frozen corn
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 Fahrenheit.
  2. Heat a large pan or Dutch oven with the oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the diced onion and sauté for 5–7 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until mostly browned.
  5. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add the Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  7. Sauté for 1–2 minutes to develop flavor.
  8. Mix in the gluten free flour until no clumps remain.
  9. Add the beef broth, corn, peas, and carrots.
  10. Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  11. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish and spread evenly.
  12. Top with mashed potatoes and fluff the surface with a fork.
  13. Bake for 20–25 minutes until the top is lightly golden brown.
  14. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  15. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure Worcestershire sauce and broth are certified gluten free.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or lamb for a different flavor.
  • For a crispier top, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
