Description

This honey garlic chicken is crispy on the outside and coated in a rich, sweet and savory glaze. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s a perfect quick main course packed with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 x 250g/9oz chicken breasts, sliced horizontally to make 4 pieces
  • 35g / 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp / 30g butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely diced
  • 80g / 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice each chicken breast horizontally through the center to create 4 even-sized pieces.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix the flour, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Dredge each piece of chicken in the mixture, shaking off excess.
  3. Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for a few minutes on each side until golden and nearly cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter. Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Stir in honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Let the sauce simmer gently for a couple of minutes until slightly thickened and glossy.
  6. Lower heat, return the chicken to the pan along with any juices, and add thyme sprigs if using. Baste the chicken in the sauce for 1–2 minutes until fully heated through and coated.
  7. Serve immediately, ensuring the sauce clings to the chicken but remains pourable. Add a splash of water or stock if needed to loosen the sauce.

Notes

  • Pound chicken slightly for even thickness if needed.
  • Substitute soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • Adjust honey for sweetness preference.
  • Pairs well with rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
