Description

Crispy, bite-sized popcorn chicken inspired by the classic KFC favorite. These golden chicken bites are seasoned, crunchy, and perfect for dipping or serving as a snack or main dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken pieces in a bowl with the buttermilk and egg. Mix well and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and dredge each piece thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
  5. Fry the chicken in batches for 4 to 6 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Transfer the cooked popcorn chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.

  • For extra crunch, double coat the chicken by dipping it back into the buttermilk and flour mixture before frying.
  • You can use chicken thighs for juicier popcorn chicken.
