Description
This homemade strawberry milk is sweet, creamy, and bursting with fresh strawberry flavor. Made with a simple strawberry syrup, it is a refreshing drink perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh strawberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 cups milk
- Optional: 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water for thickening
Instructions
- Wash the strawberries thoroughly, remove the stems, hull them, and cut into quarters.
- Place the strawberries, sugar, 1/4 cup water, and lemon juice into a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Bring the mixture to a light boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 8-10 minutes until the strawberries soften and the syrup thickens.
- Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a measuring cup or jar, gently pressing the strawberries to release extra juice. Skim off any foam if needed and allow the syrup to cool.
- If the syrup is too thin, return it to the saucepan and simmer. Slowly stir in the cornstarch slurry until the syrup is thick enough to coat a spoon.
- Allow the syrup to cool completely.
- To serve, stir 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry syrup into 2 cups of milk until well combined and pink in color.
- Store leftover syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Use whole milk for a creamier texture or plant-based milk for a dairy-free option.
- Adjust the amount of syrup to make the drink sweeter or more intense in strawberry flavor.
- The strawberry syrup can also be used on pancakes, waffles, or ice cream.
- Serve chilled for the best flavor.
