Description
Bread Pakora is a popular Indian street food made with bread slices stuffed with a flavorful potato filling, dipped in spiced gram flour batter, and deep-fried until golden and crispy. Perfect as a tea-time snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 8 bread slices
- 3 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 2 tablespoons rice flour
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds)
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, green chili, ginger, cilantro, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to prepare the filling.
- In another bowl, whisk together gram flour, rice flour, turmeric, red chili powder, ajwain, salt, and water to make a smooth batter.
- Spread the potato filling between two bread slices and cut diagonally if desired.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Dip each stuffed bread sandwich into the batter, coating evenly.
- Carefully place into hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.
- Serve hot with green chutney or ketchup.
Notes
- You can use whole wheat bread for a healthier variation.
- Add paneer or cheese to the potato filling for extra richness.
- Adjust spice levels according to taste.
- Serve immediately for the crispiest texture.
