Description
These crispy honey garlic chicken wings are oven baked until golden and tossed in a sticky, sweet, and savory garlic sauce. Perfect for game day, parties, or an easy appetizer with irresistible crunch.
Ingredients
- 1 kg chicken wings
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried chilli flakes (red pepper flakes)
- Chopped spring onions (scallions), for serving
Instructions
- Cut the chicken wings at the joints. Pat them very dry with paper towels and place uncovered in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight to dry the skin.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan) / 395°F. Line a baking tray with foil and top with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, toss the wings with the baking powder and salt until evenly coated.
- Arrange the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking tray.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the wings are golden brown and crispy.
- While the wings bake, combine the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, water, garlic, and chilli flakes in a small saucepan.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer over low-medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Transfer the crispy wings to a large bowl, pour over the sauce, and toss until evenly coated.
- Serve immediately topped with chopped spring onions or sesame seeds if desired.

- Drying the wings uncovered in the refrigerator helps achieve extra crispy skin.
- Baking powder is essential for crispiness; do not substitute with baking soda.
- For extra heat, add more chilli flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
