Description
Soft and fluffy homemade naan bread stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese and brushed with fragrant garlic butter. This easy skillet naan is perfect served alongside curries, dhal, or enjoyed on its own.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose/plain flour
- 2 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup (120g) natural/plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup (60ml) warm milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (115g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- Handful coriander/cilantro leaves, finely chopped
- Nigella seeds, optional
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well.
- Add the yogurt and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the warm milk while mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough back into a bowl, brush lightly with melted butter or oil, cover, and let rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
- Flatten each ball into a disc. Place about 1 tablespoon of shredded mozzarella in the center, fold the edges over to seal, then gently roll into a flatbread.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each naan for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown spots appear.
- To make the garlic butter, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in the chopped cilantro.
- Brush the cooked naan generously with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with nigella seeds if desired.
- Repeat with the remaining dough portions and serve warm.
Notes
- Use extra mozzarella for an even cheesier filling.
- These naan breads are best served fresh and warm.
- You can substitute cilantro with parsley if preferred.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a skillet before serving.
