Description

Sweet and spicy maple roasted Brussels sprouts with crispy edges and a tender center, perfect as a flavorful side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs brussels sprouts
  • 3 tbsp melted coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1/2 tbsp chili flakes (crushed red pepper) or cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt or kosher salt
  • More salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Line a half sheet pan with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  3. Wash the brussels sprouts, trim the stems, and cut them in half. Pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  4. Place the prepared brussels sprouts in a large bowl.
  5. Add the oil, chili flakes or black pepper, maple syrup, and salt. Toss well to coat.
  6. Optionally drizzle a little extra oil on the lined baking tray to prevent sticking.
  7. Spread the brussels sprouts evenly on the baking tray.
  8. Roast for about 30 minutes, checking halfway to prevent burning. For more caramelization, roast an additional 5–10 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven, taste, and adjust seasoning with more salt if needed. Toss and serve.

Notes

  • Patting the brussels sprouts dry helps them crisp better during roasting.
  • Parchment paper prevents sticking better than foil.
  • Adjust chili flakes to control heat level.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven for best texture.
